5 Tips for Bathing Your Dog

With our economy as it is, we can all use some extra cash – huh? I have opted to forego the trips to the Puppy Groomer in recent months, and bath my dogs at home. After the first time or two, it really isn't much trouble at all! So, here's what to do:

1st Wash your dog with a mild herbal shampoo (dog shampoo is not necessary).

2nd Rinse with a 50/50 mix of Apple Cider Vinegar and water. Let stand for a couple minutes, then rinse with clear water. Apple Cider Vinegar works wonders in improving the health of your dogs fur coat, not to mention repelling fleas and healing minor skin irritations. There are other benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, too. Check out these links:

3rd Clean your dogs ears with a cotton swab dipped in a 50/50 mix of Apple Cider Vinegar and water, being careful not to go too deep into the ear, but carefully swabbing the folds in his ear. This mixture helps not only to clean, but to head off ear infections.

4th Brush your dogs coat to help it dry, and to remove loose hair. Frequent brushing between baths is good if you want to bond with your dog and keep shedding to a minimum. You may even wish to try blow drying your dog.

5th Trim your dogs nails with a dremmel rotary grinder type tool with the emery cylinder attachment. These work well to smooth your dogs nails instead of leaving jagged edges to catch on carpet. If you have never used one on your dog, ease him into it. Begin the process by giving your dog a treat. Show him the tool – let him sniff it. Rub his paw gently. Give him another treat and begin trimming. This is best accomplished with 2 people – one to hold the dog still, and the other to do the trimming. Don't scare the dog. It may take a few attempts to earn his trust.

Viola! Now you have a clean, well groomed dog!
