Even if you do not want to spend a lot of time training your puppy, you should spend the time on these three things to keep your pup safe and your home free from unpleasantries. The first two tasks, sit or lie down and stay should be taught for two primary reasons. One is to establish you (the human) as the pack leader with your dog, which will establish the foundation of a healthy relationship with your dog. The second reason is for your puppy's own safety. If you know he will sit or lie down and stay there whenever you give the command, you can avoid your dog running into a busy street or in harms way or any unforeseen circumstance.
