Does Your Dog Jump on You when it's Chow Time?

While using his meal as incentive, chow time is actually a very good starting point for teaching the Sit/Stay command. Once you have your dog's food ready to serve, with bowl in hand tell your dog to “sit” then ”stay.” Once he is sitting, begin to lower the bowl to the ground. As soon as the dog makes any move away from the sitting position, raise the bowl up and again tell him to “sit” then ”stay.” Repeat this process until your dog will stay long enough for you to silently count to five, then tell him “okay,” which will always be the command you use to give your dog permission to move from the sitting position. Persistence will pay off here. After following this regimen for a few meals, your dog should begin to sit/stay on his own at meal time. Once he has this down, you can proceed with other sit/stay training.

Hmm! Well, I don’t think dogs jump on just chow time but also in many other occasions. However this is one of the best time where you can really teach your dog sitting as well as standing upon your command. At first it may be a little tiresome but at the end of the day you can see results leaping. Trust me, dogs are smarter than you think and we don’t call dog’s man’s best companion for no reason!
