Puppy Training - 3 Tips The Experts Agree On

  1. Consistency and repetition

  2. Reward Positive Behavior

  3. Keep your puppy on a schedule

I research dog and puppy training information on a regular basis, and all the experts seem to agree on these three points. And I have found each of these to be effective with my dogs and many others I know.

Consistency and repetition are key as you embark upon any type of puppy training. So, whether you are house training or training your puppy to sit on command, you should do it the same every time. Eventually, your dog will associate your actions with that specific behavior. Then when you reward your puppy for behaving or responding correctly, it reinforces the behavior. It is also important to stay on a schedule when housetraining your puppy. You should start by letting him out every couple hours if possible, or at the shortest intervals possible - starting with first thing in the morning, after eating and after playing.
